Tell us few words about yourself.
A self-introduction is always hard. Basically I’m a 22 year old girl from Trbovlje. I eat a plant-based diet and am a proud momma of three cats. I’m pretty good at different languages, I like to travel and explore new places. I love to create and am passionate about changing the world for the better. Always open for discussions, so please feel free to find me and talk to me about random stuff, deep thoughts or whatever troubles your heart 🙂
How did your adventure with cosmetics started?
This whole journey started with me getting into a more plant-based lifestyle. I didn’t just get more conscious about what I was eating. I also paid more attention to my actions and with it also to the products I was using in everyday life. I became more educated about the way certain products and ingredients were produced. I tried to shop for more natural skin care options, but sadly most were very expensive or didn’t work for my skin type at all.
Together with the desire to find naturally made products, I also had this strong desire to try and produce a little less waste compared to the amount I produced in the past. A few months ago we started working on a “zero waste” youth exchange in MCT. I saw that it’s up to me to try and change how the world works and this is how I decided that I’ll do my best and establish my own business and make my own products.
I buy my ingredients packaged in paper, glass or in bulk, which means less waste. I put my creams, scrubs and lotions into aluminium jars, which can then be either fully recycled, reused or brought back to me, if one wants a refill of the same product. I’m also willing to fill the customers’ own jars with my products, thus even further eliminating waste.
What is your favourite cream?
My favourite products right now are my deodorant creams. I’ve been perfecting the mixture for the longest time and I’m certain of their effectiveness. Many people have tried it and until now I didn’t receive any negative criticism about it. So I’m naturally very satisfied about the product.
Right after the deodorants I really like one of my face and body scrubs. I still haven’t figured out the perfect mixture, but it smells like apple pie, which I absolutely love. It’s safe to say that people will like it very much once it’s ready.
Do you have any interesting stories involving cosmetics?
Because I have three cats, there’s always at least one somewhere close when I’m making my products. Surely they must already know all the recipes by heart, since they watch every move I make.
One of my cats is obsessed with coconut oil. That’s why I have a separate jar with coconut oil just for her and give her some from time to time. She always waits in front of the cupboard, where the oil is stashed. By the way, it’s perfectly healthy to give cats this type of oil. It’s supposed to help with dry skin and improve the health of their fur. The more you know, right?
How have your views on the world changed?
It made me see how much useless crap there is in the stuff around us and how big companies are corrupted. The amount of corruption makes my head hurt. No one really cares about people nowadays; all everyone wants is money, no matter the cost. It’s in the individuals’ hands to change this. Everyone is responsible for themselves and at the same time for what’s happening to others. People don’t want to get blamed, but it’s the peoples’ fault the world works the way it does. We need to see and accept it and start making changes. There aren’t any magical fairies that would make global warming disappear or for example remove plastic waste from nature and make it vanish into thin air. We need to stop relying on others and start making the changes that we want to see in the world happening. This is the truth that everyone needs to know. #geteducated
Can you give as a few tips on skin care?
Get to know your skin and your problem areas! Once you have determined the causes of your problems, it’s easier to solve them. Our skin needs hydration, so it’s important to drink enough water throughout the day. Just this little change can solve many problems. On top of drinking water, one should also eat clean, as much fruit and vegetables as possible, with little to no junk food. But it’s okay to cheat every now and then!
I’ve noticed that people are afraid of oils, because of the common belief that oil will make your face and skin oily and dirty. I can just recommend people to do their research. Find out about different oils and butters, their properties and the positive effects they have. The same goes with essential oils. They smell good and do well, but can it get any better?
Try to make your own things and try to buy less packaged stuff with a million ingredients you haven’t even heard of before. Less is more in terms of ingredients. It’s better to spend a tiny bit more on a quality product than it is to splurge on cheaper ones with unknown ingredients. Once again, get educated. It’s up to you. Ask questions, be curious. I am more than willing to talk to anyone about anything. 🙂
Nika, thank you for finding the time for the interview, I now know a lot more things that I didn’t know before. Hopefully other people will also find it interesting and open their eyes to the possibilities in our world. I wish you all the best with your business ventures.
